Malawi Bullets see off Silver to bag first-ever Airtel Top 8 trophy

Nyasa Big Bullets came from behind to force a 1-1 draw with Silver Strikers before winning 5-3 on post-match penalties to grab the Airtel Top 8 cup on Saturday afternoon.

The final between the elite TNM Super League champions Bullets and the FDH Cup kings Silver Strikers took place at Kamuzu Stadium in the commercial capital Blantyre.

With level Covid-19 rules set to be enforced from Monday when public gatherings would be limited to a few people, fans had a rare chance to troop to the venue to witnessed the curtain go down on the domestic football season for 2021 in Malawi.

It was a meeting between former Zimbabwe coach Kalisto Pasuwa and his Zambian counterpart Dan Kabwe who was chasing a double.

The start seemed promising for Silver as striker Stain Dave put Silver ahead in the ninth minute before young striker Lanjesi Nkoma equalized for Bullets.

The two teams could not be separated in 90 minutes hence post-match penalties followed.

In the end Bullets goalkeeper Ernest Kakhobwe made the difference as he stopped a penalty from Silver to hand Pasuwa a double this season.

Yamikani Fodya, Zicco Mkanda, Chimwemwe Idana, Gomezgani Chirwa and Nickson Nyasulu scored the penalties for Bullets.

Silver scored through Frank Banda, Innocent Shema and Dave whereas Levison Maganizo had his attempt saved by Kakhobwe who appeared to have stepped off his line when the attempt was taken.
