Champions League Mosimane says playing Sundowns won’t be easy

Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane has said his Egyptian side has been drawn in the toughest of the 2021-2022 CAF Champions League groups.

The South African said this in reaction after Al Ahly were put in the same group with his former employers, Sundowns of South Africa, and Sudanese sides Al Hilal and Al Merrikh.

It won’t be an easy group,” Mosimane told Al Ahly website.

“We have Sundowns, Al Hilal, and Al Merrikh who are all experienced in the CAF Champions League. We have a lot of difficult games to play, as all the other three teams will be looking to qualify from the group.”  

Mosimane joined Al Ahly from Sundowns last season and has gone on to win back-to-back CAF Champions League titles and defended the CAF Super Cup.

He said he was proud to have achieved a lot within a short period of time while in Egypt.

 “I am at a club which won ten the title ten times. Our fans always expect us to win all the competitions we compete in.  I am very proud and honored to have won the last two CAF Champions League titles with Al Ahly,” Mosimane is quoted saying. 

The draw took place at CAF Headquarters in Cairo, Egypt where Mosimane witnessed the proceedings.

  1. Al Ahly vs Al Merrikh (11 or 12 February)
  2. Al Hilal vs Al Ahly (18 or 19 February)
  3. Al Ahly vs. Sundowns (25 or 26 February)
  4. Sundowns vs. Al Ahly (11 or 12 March)
  5. Al Merrikh vs. Al Ahly (18 or 19 March)
  6. Al Ahly vs. Al Hilal (1 or 2 April)
