Algeria Riyad Mahrez focused on AFCON after helping Manchester City stay top

Winger Riyad Mahrez has said he was now focused on representing Algeria at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after helping Manchester City start the New Year on top of the Premier League in England.

Mahrez said this after maintaining his fine form when he scored the leveler for City before Rodri grabbed the late goal in the 2-1 win over Arsenal on Sunday.

Starting the new year like we finished the last next stop@CAF_Online,” Mahrez tweeted after the game.

Mahrez scored from the penalty spot in the 57th minute to cancel of Bukayo Saka’s 37th minute goal for the hosts  before Gabriel was sent off then Rodri stole the maximum points with the late clincher.

City remain 11 points clear with a game in hand over close pursuers Liverpool who clash with third-placed Chelsea later on Sunday.

Now, Mahrez is ready to lead Algeria who will try to defend the AFCON title they won two years ago. AFCON will run from January 9 to February 6.
