Super Eagles interim coach Austine Eguavoen has replaced Odion Ighalo with Feyenoord striker Cyriel Dessers ahead of the African Cup of Nations AFCON.

Ighalo who plays for Qatar club Al Shabab wass included in the 28-man squad list for the tournament.

The striker was prevented from honouring the invitation with the club citing late request as reason for holding the player back.

Desser was given his first Super Eagles invitation by former Eagles gaffer, Gernot Rohr and he made his debut in the 1-1 draw against Tunisia on October 13, 2020 during an international friendly game.

The forward would be hoping to bring his goal scoring boots to the AFCON having scored 10 goals in 27 games across all competitions this season for Feyenoord.
