AFCON Andre Ayew reveals the reason behind Ghana’s 40-year AFCON drought

Speaking to the media ahead of Ghana’s first game in the AFCON 2021 against Morocco, Black Stars captain Andre Ayew revealed the reason behind his country’s AFCON drought.

The last time Ghana won the Africa Cup of nations was in 1982. Ayew was just 7 at that time.

But the current Al Sadd winger had the opportunity to represent his country at several AFCON editions namely in 2010 and 2015 when they lost respectively to Egypt and Ivory Coast in final.

During his pre-match press conference on Sunday, the 32-year old was asked about what the problem is with Ghana in AFCON.

And he answered this : “I wouldn’t say there is a problem, I think we have been unlucky and the last editions. I think we have the best African record of the team getting in the last four or the finals in the last 10 to 15 years,” Andre Ayew said.

“I think we have been unlucky and we have to keep working hard and one day we will get there,” he added.
