AFCON CAF slams Egypt with hefty fine ahead of Cameroon clash – AFCON 2021

Egypt AFCON 2021

Confederation of African football (CAF) has imposed a hefty fine on Egypt ahead of their 2021 Africa Cup of nations (AFCON) semifinal clash against host country Cameroon on Thursday.

This comes after the Egyptian delegation refused to show up for the pre-match press conference against Morocco in quarter-final last Saturday (2-1).

Since this attitude goes against the AFCON 2021 media protocols and rules, Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has received a fine from the continent’s football governing body on Tuesday night.

“The CAF Disciplinary Board has imposed a fine of 100 000 USD, with 50 000 suspended, to the Egypt Football Association (EFA) for breaching CAF TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Cameroon 2021 media protocols and directives”, CAF wrote on its official website.

“Egypt FA have 60 days to pay the 50 000 USD fine.

“The other 50.000 USD is suspended on the condition that Egypt FA are not found guilty with a similar offence during the Total Energies African Cup Of Nations, Cameroon 2021.”
