AFCON Prize Money For AFCON Teams As Revealed By CAF

The last edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) ended on Sunday with Senegal winners for their maiden title. And the top four finishers are rewarded as CAF officially confirmed prize money.

Title holders after beating Egypt 4-2 on penalties after proving to be the best team at the delayed 2021 tournament, the West Africa side are the highest ranked Africa side in the FIFA rankings. And they boast a star-studded squad including the likes of Liverpool striker Sadio Mane and Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

Coach Aliou Cisse’s men are now set to pocket $5 million in prize money from the Confederation of African Football (CAF). 

The top prize showed an increase of $500 000 from the $4.5 million won by 2019 AFCON champions Algeria. 

In addition, Senegal President Macky Sall gifted each member of the squad $87 000 as well as plots of land in the country.

Runners-up Egypt will receive $2.75 million for their efforts, while the two losing semi-finalists, Cameroon and Burkina Faso, will take home $2.2 million apiece. 

The teams that lost out in the quarter-finals Gambia, Morocco, Tunisia and Equatorial Guinea – will receive $1.8 million each.
