Dstv Premiership South Africa’s Royal AM sign ex-Sundowns’ Brazilian defender

Ambitious South Africa’s DStv Premiership team, Royal AM, has signed Brazilian Ricardo Nascimento on a free transfer.

Royal AM’s millionaire owner Shawn Mkhize unveiled the defender on Thursday afternoon, a day after league holders Mamelodi Sundowns had released him.

I went from wingers to the strikers, now I am coming to the core,” Mkhize was captured in a video clip saying at the unveiling ceremony.

“I am strengthening the defence. My core of the team is getting there. It is taking shape.”

Nascimento, aged 35 years old, won several trophies with Sundowns, having spent some six seasons with the Pretoria-based giants.

Mkhize bought the Premiership status of Bloemfontein Celtic and renamed the KwaZulu Natal-based team last year.

Malawian John Maduka is in charge of Royal AM who lie on  a respectable seventh place on the log table with 26 points from 17 and look set to avoid the drop.

Royal AM return to action on Saturday when lining up against Cape Town City in a Nedbank Cup Round of-32-match.

Maduka’s men resume their league assignment on Tuesday when they host fellow debutants Sekhukhune United at Chatsworth Stadium.
