Egypt Zamalek Taste Second League Defeat As They Suffered 2-0 Loss To Smouha

Zamalek lost 2-0 to Smouha in the Egyptian Premier League macth day nine. The White Knights controlled possession in the opening minutes, without creating any real threat on the opponents’ goal.

It wasn’t until they were given a freekick in the 25th minute that they troubled El-Hany Soliman. That was the occasion when Youssef Obama beat the defenders to the follow-up and smashed it into the back of the net.

However, the goal was later ruled out by the referee, who consulted the VAR and found Obama in an offside position.

Zamalek got a couple of goal-scoring chances. However, they were punished when Sodiq Awujoola put Smouha ahead with a powerful shot on 65 minutes.

Joint leaders Zamalek, who suffered their second league defeat in nine matches this season, missed out on the chance of moving clear on top as they remain level on 19 points with perennial Cairo rivals Ahly, who have two games in hand.

Smouha, who secured their first win over Zamalek in five years, moved up to third with 18 points.
