Malawi Malawian Peter Banda misses out on Simba monthly award

Malawian playmaker Peter Banda has missed out on a monthly award at Tanzania Mainland Premier League giants Simba.

The Flames player earned the nomination for the Emirate Aluminum ACP Simba Fans Player of the Month award for February 2022 alongside defenders Henock Inonga and Shomari Kapombe.

Banda has been in impressive form for Simba since signing for the Dar es Salaam based team from Malawi champions, Nyasa Big Bullets, via a loan spell at Tisapol Sherrif in Moldova.

The winger was part of the Flames squad that impressed at the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Cameroon by reaching the round of 16 stage for the first time.

In the award, the right-back Kapombe eventually won the ultimate prize after getting the most 821 votes followed by Inonga on 277 and Banda’s 185.

Simba website reports that Kapombe will receive 2,000,000 Tanzania Shillings and a prize from the sponsors Emirate Aluminum ACP.

The aim of launching the awards is to increase the commitment of the players to fight for the team to get the winning result,” the website says.

Fans vote to determine the winner of the award for the team that is also competing in the group stages of the Confederation Cup.

Domestically, Simba are on second place on the log table of the league with 31 points from 15 games, 11 points behind leaders Yanga who have played one game more.
