We always look for the best and Ferreira is a serial winner.” The fiery-tempered Mansour, who fell out with Ferreira during his previous stint at the helm of the White Knights, said in a video broadcast by Zamalek’s social media channels.

Zamalek dismissed Carteron last Monday following a four-match winless run, which saw the title holders lose ground in the Egyptian Premier League race and drop to third in their African Champions League group.

Caretaker Osama Nabih presided over a solitary match following Carteron’s departure, with Zamalek snatching a last-gasp 3-2 league win over Future FC on Wednesday after coming from two goals down.

Mansour added that Ferreira will sign a one-and-a-half year contract with Zamalek. And he will be joined by three Portuguese assistants.

The 75-year-old, who is fondly nicknamed “The Professor” by Zamalek’s supporters, is likely to lead the team for the first time when they host Morocco’s Wydad in a crucial Champions League clash in Cairo next Friday.
