African players abroad Fit-again Joel Matip set to return for Inter Milan match

Cameroonian defender Joel Matip has recovered from an illness, which ruled him out of Liverpool’s Premier League match against West Ham United on Saturday.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Matip is set to feature for Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second leg match against Inter Milan.

“Joel was only three or four days I think, so he is fine, I would say,” he told Liverpool website.

The manager also said Brazilian Roberto Firmino had returned to full training after also sitting out of the 1-0 win over the Hammers.

With Bobby, it was longer out, it was [his] first session, so we have to see if we have to stress that or if it makes probably sense to give him just a few more days with proper training,” Klopp said.

He said he was keeping fingers crossed on the availability of midfieder Thiago Alcantara who suffered a harmstring injury.

So, Thiago was only a week out, probably will be fine but we have to wait for it,” he said.

Liverpool do not have any player on the suspension list and go into the match holding a two-goal advantage from the first leg.
