CAF Champions League Al Ahly Bowed To Mamelodi Sundowns For The Second Consecutive Time

After 1-0 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns in Cairo, Al Ahly bowed once again to the Premier Soccer League giants in the Caf Champions League return game in Johannesburg this Saturday afternoon.

The South African giants are almost qualified for the CAF Champions League quarter-finals.

It would take nothing short of a miracle for Mamelodi Sundowns not to reach the Last 8 following their 1-0 victory at the FNB Stadium.

The only goal of the match came in the 23rd minute thanks to an achievement from Namibian striker Peter Shalulile.

Mamelodi Sundowns now have 10 points after four matches, with all three of the other teams in Group A – Al Ahly, Al-Hilal and Al-Merrikh – on four points after as many matches.

For Mamelodi Sundowns not to reach the quarter-finals they would need to lose both their remaining matches to the two Sudanese sides Al-Hilal and Al-Merrikh – and have Al Ahly do exactly the same against the same opponents.

The Brazilians are due to face Al-Hilal next on Saturday, 19 March in Sudan (13:00 SA GMT). They will then wrap up their group phase commitments at home against Al-Merrikh (date/time TBC).
