African players abroad Thomas keeps Arsenal’s top-four party hopes alive

Arsenal’s dream for the Uefa Champions League football party came from a very unlikely source—Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey.

The spiky-haired midfielder’s early goal put Arsenal on the path to a significant 2-0 win over Leicester City in a Premier League match on Sunday evening.

Partey leapt to meet a corner kick and thump his header past Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel in the 11th minute.

It was a perfect weekend for Partey who is fresh from winning the February Player of the Month Award for Arsenal.

The Gunners sealed the maximum points when Alexandre Lacazette added the second goal from the penalty spot in the 59th minute.

Arsenal leapfrogged Manchester United into fourth place with two games in hand to revive Uefa Champions League prospects.

Arsenal are one point ahead of United who have played three games more than the Gunners who take on Liverpool on Wednesday then Aston Villa on Saturday.

Leicester are on position 12 with 33 points and their Europa League prospects look dim.
