Chelsea Chelsea Suffers Another Setback As MSC Temporarily Suspends Deal

Chelsea FC has continued to bear brunt of Russia invasion of Ukraine as MSC Cruises announced its “temporarily withdraw” of their marketing activities with the club.

The suspended deal was worth £2.5m-a-year.

The cruise line company is the official global cruise partner and it is currently set to expire in June 2024 after a three-year extension was agreed between the two parties.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has been ban by the UK Government and his account frozen as the club was also ordered not to sell tickets

The cruise line company is listed as the Premier League club’s “official global cruise partner” but that partnership now appears to be on hold after Abramovich had “his assets frozen, a prohibition on transactions with UK individuals and businesses, a travel ban and transport sanctions” imposed on him following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Last week Three asked the club to suspend their sponsorship, while Hyundai told Sky Sports News that they were “assessing the situation with Chelsea FC”.

Trivago, Chelsea’s training kit sponsor, said they wanted to support the club in the transition of ownership process.

An MSC Cruises spokesperson said; “Chelsea Football Club has a been a long-standing member of the football family with widespread appeal both locally and internationally which is why we decided to partner with the club.

We look forward to the transition of ownership and will continue to support the club and its fans.

“In the meantime, we have decided to temporarily withdraw the marketing activities included in our partnership until further notice and we thank the team at Chelsea Football Club for their understanding.”
