AFCON Two Flames AFCON stars named in Malawi under-23 squad

Malawi under-23 national football team caretaker coach Mario Marinica has included two Europe-based players in the team’s squad for an invitational tournament in Turkey.

Georgia-based winger Fransisco Madinga and his Moldova-based counterpart Charles Petro, who were part of the Africa Cup of Nations party in Cameroon, have made the trip.

The Flames have elected to travel to Turkey with the hastily assembled under-23 team to give them exposure at the Antalya Africa Cup 2022.

Malawi will face Kuwait under-23 on March 24 then Togo four days later.

The invitational tournament has also attracted Zambia, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Congo, Benin, Burundi and Tajikistan.
