News Zambia’s new young brigade ready to seize Chipolopolo chance

Zambia’s up-and-coming players have said they are eager and ready to fight for their places in the team following their call-up to warm up matches in Europe and Asia.

Aime Mabika and Frankie Musonda said this in an interview with Football Association of Zambia media ahead of Friday’s meeting with Congo Brazzaville at Mardan Sports Complex in Turkey.

The America-based Mabika said it has always been his dream to represent Zambia having been born in Lusaka to Congolese parents.

It is something I have been waiting for and for it happen, it has been exciting. I think I can bring something of value to the team…thank you for accepting me,” said the Inter Miami FC player.

Musonda of Raith Rovers in Scotland said he was trying to get to know his new teammates and understand them to gel with the team.

Yeah, it has been very good. The team has been very welcoming and this has made it a lot easier for me. Thank you for the love and support,” he said.

Zambia captain Enock Mwepu said they had welcomed the new players with both hands, adding that the new comers understand Zambia football and know what is expected of them.

So far so good. They are decent boys; been decent lads. They understand already Zambia football,” he said.

Chipolopolo Croatian coach Aljosa Asanovic has called up the up-and- coming players such as Mabika and Musonda in the 23-member squad for the friendlies.

Zambia started the warm ups with a 3-1 loss to hosts Iraq last week in Asanovic’s first international friendly.

Zambia are fine-tuning for the qualifiers of the 2023 AFCON finals having learnt their lessons from missing out on the 2021 edition held in Cameroon.
