Qatar 2022 Eto’o hails Cameroon players for showing true Indomitable Lions spirit

Cameroon football president Samuel Eto’o Fils has congratulated the senior national team for showing the true spirit of Indomitable Lions by sealing a World Cup berth after shrugging off Algeria on Tuesday evening.

“Yesterday, our Lions showed the world what it means to have a truly Indomitable spirit. The #RoadToQatar2022 was long, but I couldn’t be happier to see Cameroon qualify for the World Cup once again. Congratulations coach  @Song_Officiel_4 and the entire team,” the former Barcelona star tweeted.

Cameroon qualified on an away goal rule after the two teams had tied at two-all over legs.

Cameroon beat Algeria 2-1 on Tuesday evening after having lost at home 1-0 to the former Africa kings.

Karl Toko Ekambi scored a 124th-minute winner as Cameroon sensationally booked their place at the World Cup in Qatar with a 2-1 victory over hosts Algeria in their playoff tie at the Stade Mustapha Tchaker on Tuesday.

Algeria looked to have booked their place when Ahmed Touba netted with three minutes remaining at the end of extra time.

But as Cameroon pushed everyone forward for the final play of the game, Toko Ekambi latched onto a loose ball to net a most unlikely winner.

Earlier in the first half, Choupo-Moting showed the hunting ways to the Indomitable Lions with opener in the 22nd minute that gave qualification hope to Rigobert Song’s men.

The victory on the away goals rule sealed an eighth World Cup finals appearance for the Indomitable Lions and followed a 1-0 win for Algeria in the first leg on Friday that left them heavy favourites to advance.
