Malawi Eagles still soar in Malawi league: Lilongwe derby ends in draw

Civil Service came from behind to force a 1-1 draw with Lilongwe rivals Silver Strikers in a TNM Super League clash on Sunday afternoon to wrap up a weekend that saw Blue Eagles still on top.

In-form forward Chawanangwa Kaonga scored in the seventh minute for the 10th ranked Silver to extend his scoring run to three successive games.

However, Patrick Phiri had other ideas as he levelled matters 19 minutes later for the eighth-positioned Civil at Silver Stadium.

Silver have picked four points from three games to pile the pressure on Zambian coach Dan Kabwe who is now into his second season with the Lilongwe-based team.

Some 100 kilometres away from Lilongwe, debutants Dedza Dynamos stunned Kamuzu Barracks 2-1 at Dedza Stadium to move to second place.

Misinjo and Chipala scored for the hosts who took their tally to seven points from three games, displacing Red Lions from second place.

In Blantyre, Mighty Wanderers dropped points after being held to a goalless draw by Waka Waka Tigers at Chiwembe Stadium.

On Saturday, holders Nyasa Big Bullets eased past Ekwendeni Hammers 3-1 at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

Winger McFarlen Mgwira, strikers Babatunde Adepoju and Hassan Kajoke scored for the fourth placed Bullets who have six points from two games.

 Mbewe netted the consolation for the visitors Hammers who went on to share the spoils 1-1 with Sable Farming FC on Sunday.

In Mzuzu, leaders Blue Eagles left it late to defeat hosts Moyale Barracks 1-0 and make it three wins in a row for the cops from Lilongwe.

In another game, Mafco lost 0-2 at home to fellow soldiers Red Lions who had Chikoti Chirwa and Ronald Pangani to thank for the goals and with it, third place on seven points.

Chikondi Mvula scored off a rebound to hand the Elia Kananji side maximum points and stay top on nine points from three games.
