Malawi Blantyre Zero displace Skippers at summit of FAM Women’s Championship

Blantyre Zero FC have displaced Skippers at the summit of pool A of the  FAM National Women’s Championship whereas Ascent Academy still dictate Group B proceedings.

Blantyre went top of the four-member table after defeating Moyale Barracks Sisters 2-1 on Saturday.

Zainab Kapanda and Vanessa Chikupira were on target for the visitors Blantyre whereas Getrude Chiona scored the hosts’ consolation.

Blantyre have seven points from three games, one point ahead of Skippers who defeated Ntopwa 2-0 on Saturday before losing 1-0 to the leaders on Sunday.

Ntopwa are on third place with four points from three games whereas the soldiers of Moyale are winless in three outings and lie bottom.

The story is different with Ascent Academy who made it three wins on the bounce last week to remain top of Group B despite not being in action over the weekend.

Ascent were joined on nine points by second-placed Lilongwe rivals, DD Sunshine, who too, were on bye over the weekend.

CY Sisters and Bangwe Super Queens occupy third and fourth places on three points apiece.

Sisters thrashed Bangwe 12-0 on Sunday when Vitumbiko Mkandawire scored six goals with Loveness Teketani and Maureen Phiri claiming three goals each.

Mkandawire is now the second leading scorer after Rose Kabzere who has seven goals to her credit after three matches.

It was some sort of an anti-climax for Bangwe who defeated Topic 2-1 on Saturday courtesy of Tawina Kawanga and Faluna Unali’s strikes with Thandie Bilima netting the face-saver for Topic.
