Almeria trounced Ponferradina 3-0 in the Spanish second division on Monday night, with Umar Sadiq on target as the race for the title and promotion to the Spanish first division heats up.

With seven games left in the season, Almeria has climbed to second place (automatic promotion berth) with 66 points, one point behind leaders Eibar.

Sadiq had scored 16 goals in 29 games in the Spanish second tier this season.

He’s only four goals away from matching his goal total from last season (20 goals, 40 games).

Sadiq scored in the 16th minute after failing to score in his previous two Almeria games.

Arnau Piugmal extended their advantage after 52 minutes, and Inigo Eguaras scored the third goal in the 91st minute.
