Premier League Fulham Beats Preston To Regain Promotion To Premier League

Fulham clinched promotion back to the Premier League with a 3-0 win over Preston, with Aleksandar Mitrovic scoring a brace to bring his season total to 40 goals.

The Cottagers could have clinched their place on Good Friday, but a 2-1 defeat at Derby was their first loss in three games this season.

At Craven Cottage, though, they bounced back and took the lead with Mitrovic’s first serious chance of the game.

Fulham’s second came via Carvalho, and Mitrovic made it 40 goals in the Sky Bet Championship when he took a touch and hammered the ball past the Preston goalkeeper just before halftime.

With 14 games left in the season, the Serbian striker had already surpassed Ivan Toney’s Championship scoring record, and is currently just two goals behind Guy Whittingham’s 42 goals for Portsmouth in 1992-93, the most in any second-tier season during the Premier League era.

Fulham earned promotion with 26 victories, eight ties, and only eight losses, scoring 98 goals in the process.
