Nigeria NPFL: We’re Improving Everyday- Akwa United Head Coach

Akwa United head coach Deji Ayeni said the team is improving everyday following their victory against Nasarawa United.

The reigning Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Champions Akwa United thrashed Nasarawa United 6-1 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, recording their largest victory in the NPFL.

The 6-1 win over Nasarawa United on Matchday 24 marked the first time in Akwa United’s 14 years in Nigeria’s top flight league that they have defeated a team by such a large margin.

Coach Ayodeji Ayeni’s club is unbeaten in five games, with two (2) victories and three (3) draws.

In a post-match interview, coach Ayeni praised his players for their outstanding effort against Nasarawa United.

We are improving everyday, and I’m happy that we have been able to change the mentality of the players and hard work we put in during training is beginning to reflect in our matches and the boys are also very confident and determined.

“Our attention is now on the game against Lobi Stars this weekend. Our target is to give our very best in all our games while hoping for the best as we continue to move forward.”

The Promise Keepers remained in seventh place on the log with 36 points from 24 games, and they will play Lobi Stars in Uyo on Sunday, April 24th, 2022.
