Malawi Eagles soar into Silver sky to maintain Malawi league top spot

Blue Eagles maintained their TNM Super League log table leadership after beating rivals Silver Strikers 1-0 at Nankhaka Ground in Lilongwe on Saturday evening.

The Malawi Police Service-owned Eagles took their tally to 19 points from seven games, five points ahead of second-placed Nyasa Big Bullets who drew 0-0 away to Karonga United on Saturday.

Laurent Banda scored on the stroke of full-time to break the hearts of Silver who are enduring a frustrating season.

Silver are on 10th place with eight points from six games.

In Blantyre, Kelvin Hang’anda’s brace handed third placed Kamuzu Barracks a 2-1 win over fifth positioned Mighty Wanderers at Kamuzu Barracks on Sunday.

Hangánda scored in the 14th and 44th minute whereas Wanderers’ consolation came from Adeleki Kolawola.

At Rumphi Stadium in the Northern Region, Trouble Kajani’s goal handed Rumphi United a 1-0 win over Civil Service.

Basement side TN Stars shared the spoils with Red Lions at 1-1 after Chikoti Chirwa’s goal for the visitors was wiped out by Chimenya’s late strike.

On Saturday, Mighty Times came from behind to beat Dedza Dynamos 2-1 at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre.

In other games, Mafco thrashed Moyale Barracks 3-1 whereas Civil defeated Ekwendeni Hammers 1-0.
