Malawi Big Bullets, Blue Eagles soar at Malawi League summit

The TNM Super League championship is proving to be an affair between holders Nyasa Big Bullets and surprise package Blue Eagles.

Bullets strolled past rookies Rumphi United 4-1 at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre on Sunday to reduce leaders Eagles’ cushion to just two points after eight games each.

Bullets captain Chimwemwe Idana and Patrick Mwaungulu scored once each with Hassan Kajoke spicing up the afternoon with a double that rendered Trouble Kajani’s face-saver for the rookies insignificant.

Rumphi had lost 1-0 to Red Lions in Balaka on Saturday.

Zimbabwean coach Kalisto Pasuwa-led Bullets took their tally to 20 points from eight games, two points behind Eagles who beat newcomers Sable Farming 2-1 on Saturday.

Malawi Police-owned Eagles have been on the driving seat for the past three weeks.

The gap between Bullets-Eagles and the rest of the pack is getting wider as third-placed Kamuzu Barracks are on a distant 14 points from eight games, two points ahead of Tigers on fourth slot.

Kamuzu Barracks drew 1-1 with Civil Service FC on Sunday.

Zambian coach Dan Kabwe-led Silver Strikers have 11 points on 11th place after recovering from the previous week’s 1-0 loss to Eagles to beat fellow strugglers Mighty Wanderers 2-1 in Lilongwe on Saturday.

Duncan Nyoni and Stain Davie netted for Silver whereas Muhamad Sulumba grabbed the sole consolation for Wanderers who are on sixth position with 10 points from seven games.

TN Stars anchor the 16-member log table with two points from seven games.
