African players abroad Mahrez and company in Manchester City squad for trip to Real Madrid

Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez has made the 24-member travelling party for Manchester City who are in Spain to face Real Madrid on Wednesday evening.

City go into the game carrying a delicate 4-3 win earned in the UEFA Champions League semifinal first leg.

Now, Pep Guardiola has named his best possible squad with Mahrez, City’s leading scorer this campaign, making the trip.

Defender Kyle Walker who missed the first leg due to an injury is also part of the travelling squad.

Midfielder Kevin De Bryne has since urged his team-mates to perform with discipline if they are to overcome Madrid.

“I think we are in a very good way. The fact we have not won it yet is the only criticism we can get. The rest, we have been there loads of times, fighting to win it,” he said.

“The consistency has been amazing, pretty much as good as anyone else. We just need to get over the line and [Wednesday] is another step.

“I am thinking we are in better shape now. I remember when we played [in the 2016 semi-final trip to Real Madrid] it wasn’t the greatest end to the season.”

City’s squad to face Real Madrid:

Kyle Walker, Rúben Dias, John Stones, Nathan Aké, Raheem Sterling, Ilkay Gündogan, Gabriel Jesus, Jack Grealish, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Zack Steffen, Aymeric Laporte, Rodrigo, Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Fernandinho, Riyad Mahrez, João Cancelo, Ederson, Scott Carson, Phil Foden, CJ Egan-Riley, Cole Palmer, James McAtee, Romeo Lavia
