Chelsea Boehly In Attendance As Wolves Share Spoils With Chelsea In Stamford Bridge

Todd Boehly was at Stamford Bridge on Saturday for Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Wolves, just hours after his ownership group agreed to buy the club for £4.25 billion.

Chelsea announced the takeover at 1:37 a.m. on Saturday morning, with the official completion expected later in May.

After the most public major sports franchise takeover in history, Boehly, a co-owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, has won the race to buy the Blues.

Before confirming the deal, Boehly, Clearlake Capital, Mark Walter, and Hansjorg Wyss must wait for Premier League and UK Government approval.

The club confirmed the sale in a statement on its official website.

Chelsea Football Club can confirm that terms have been agreed for a new ownership group, led by Todd Boehly, Clearlake Capital, Mark Walter and Hansjorg Wyss, to acquire the club,” a Chelsea statement read.

“Of the total investment being made, £2.5billion will be applied to purchase the shares in the club, and such proceeds will be deposited into a frozen UK bank account with the intention to donate 100 per cent to charitable causes as confirmed by Roman Abramovich.

“UK Government approval will be required for the proceeds to be transferred from the frozen UK bank account.

“In addition the proposed new owners will commit £1.75billion in further investment for the benefit of the club.

“This includes investments in Stamford Bridge, the academy, the women’s team and Kingsmeadow and continued funding for the Chelsea Foundation.

“The sale is expected to be complete in late May subject to all necessary regulatory approvals.

“More details will be provided at that time.”

Boehly was spotted cheering when Ruben Loftus-Cheek scored in the first half, but seemed perplexed when the goal was overturned by VAR.

After a lethargic first half, Romelu Lukaku was Chelsea’s source of inspiration in the game.

With Jorginho unavailable, the Belgian won a penalty ten minutes into the second session and converted it alone.

After some dreadful Wolves defending, he scored again just two minutes later, smashing home a beautiful finish from the edge of the box.

With ten minutes remaining, Wolves substitute Trincao scored, and Conor Coady headed home in the seventh minute of added time to secure a point for the visitors.

Conor Coady’s last-gasp equaliser stunned Boehly, as it did all Chelsea supporters.

Chelsea is still in pole position to finish in the top four and play Champions League football next season, but this result puts them in jeopardy, with Arsenal and Tottenham closing in on them.
