Africa Tie against Petro de Luanda not finished, Wydad coach warns his charges

Wydad Casablanca coach Walid Regragui has said the CAF Champions League semifinal tie against Petro de Luanda is far from finished.

He said this in a post-match interview after Wydad won 3-1 away to the Angolan opposition in the semifinal first leg match played on Saturday afternoon.

Regragui attributed the victory to experience of playing in the continental competition.

“I think it is the spirit of the team. We came here to fight. We know this team because we have played them two times,” he said.

We know them but what is important in the semifinal is the spirit. It is the small details. You score with one freekick and you need the quality. We played against Kaizer Chiefs and we lost and you learn from that. You need the experience. I played football and I know it is not finished.”

Regragui said they played to their strength by waiting for the right moment to strike.

The plan today was easy—you wait because you know the opposition wants to play football, to play tiki-taka and you need to know what is your strength. You wait to close the spaces and you finish them,” he said.

Wydad will now host Petro de Luanda in Morocco in the second leg with the winner to date either Al Ahly or ES Setif who are clashing in the other semifinal.
