Africa Petro de Luanda says coach proud of players despite CAF Champions League exit

Petro de Luanda coach Alexandre Santos has said he is proud of his Angolan charges despite their CAF Champions League semifinal second leg exit on Friday evening.

He said this after the second leg match against Wydad Casablanca had ended 1-1 on the night for the Moroccan hosts to proceed to the final 4-2 on aggregate.

Wydad will date either Al Ahly or ES Setif in the final.

Santos said his team dominated with 57 percent of possession of the ball against 43 percent for Wydad in the game played in Morocco.

We gave a demonstration of strength and ability; a demonstration of why we are here in the semi-final,” Santos told Petro de Luanda website.

We had more possession, more opportunities and more shots. Of course, at 3-1 they tried to control the game. It was a very good game. I am very proud of my players and very proud of this club.”

Petro de Luanda had scored through Gelson before Wydad replied via Amine Farhane.

Petro de Luanda eliminated fancied Mamelodi Sundowns from South Africa in the quarterfinal.
