Nominees for the 2022 Ballon d’Or Awards will be unveiled on August 12 2022, organiser France Football has confirmed.
The nominees for the 66th edition of the awards will be for men’s and women’s Ballon d’Or, the Kopa Trophy (best young player) and the Yachine Trophy (best keeper).
The nominees will be in the race to succeed Lionel Messi, Alexia Putellas, Pedri and Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The actual awards ceremony will take place on October 17 at the Théatre du Châtelet in Paris, France.
“The world’s most prestigious individual football player award, created by France Football in 1956, is back,” a statement from France Football reads.
Messi won the record extending seventh award last season sparking outrage from soccer fraternity which felt Robert Lewandowski deserved the gong.
This year, Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema and Lewandoski are among the favourites alongside Sadio Mane of Liverpool.
