Africa Soccer South Africa’s Maritzburg United unveil Maduka as new coach

Malawian coach John Maduka has been unveiled as the new coach for Maritzburg United in South Africa.

Maduka has joined Maritzburg on a three-year contract from Royal AM who excelled last season under his reign to finish on third position.

“John Maduka has been officially appointed as the Head Coach of the Team Of Choice,” Maritzburg tweeted on Wednesday.

“The former Bloemfontein Celtic and Royal AM head coach has signed a 3-year contract, until June 2025, with the Team of Choice and will officially start at the club for pre-season ahead of the start of the 2022/2023 DStv Premiership season.

Maduka has since said he was looking forward to the fresh challenge at Maritzburg where he has filled the void created by the exit of Ernst Middendorp.

It is a huge honour for me to represent and coach a club with the tradition and support base of Maritzburg United,” Maduka is quoted saying.

“I am very excited to get started. After discussions with the chairman and the board, I felt their passion, ambition and desire to be successful. I feel my ambition, together with my work ethic, can work to achieve the desired results for the club.”

The 51-year-olda also took the Durban based side to Nedbank Cup semifinal. The former midfielder started his coaching career at Bloemfontein Celtic who had their Premiership status bought by Royal AM last season.
