News Man City suffer blow ahead of new season as Pep’s right handman leaves

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has suffered a blow following the departure of his trusted lietenant Juanma Lillo.

City confirmed on Friday that Lillo had left to join Al-Sadd Sports Club as Head Coach in Saud Arabia.

Commenting on his departure, Lillo said: “To work alongside Pep, his backroom staff and this group of players has been a pleasure and I hope to have contributed in a small way to the fantastic success we have enjoyed on the pitch.”

City sports director Txiki Begiristain hailed the impact Lillo on the Premier League champions.

His dedication, passion and desire to improve our squad have been evident from our results on the pitch throughout his time at the club,” he said.

Lillo moved to City in 2020 and played an important role behind the scenes as City lifted two Premier League titles and a League Cup.

City will open the new facing by playing against West Ham United.
