Africa Soccer Makerere University FC win Uganda women’s football league title

Uganda’s Makerere University FC thrashed Asubo Gafford 6-0 on Saturday to win the 2021/22 FUFA Women Elite League title.

The final match took place at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium, according to Uganda football federation, Fufa website.

Striker Sharon Namatovu netted a hat-trick while Winnie Babirye, Jemima Twesigye and second half substitute Rebecca Nakasato scored the other goals.

Namatovu opened the scoring in the second minute before Babirye and Twesigye’s goals made it 3-0.

Namatovu added the fourth goal for the intellectuals in the 18th minute then went on to complete her treble in the second half.

Namatovu was named the Most Valuable Player of the season while Wakiso Hill striker Slyvia Namiwanda was the league’s top scorer with 13 goals.

Makerere University shot stopper Zahara Nankya was named the best goalkeeper.

Wakiso Hill WFC won the fair play award.

Winners Makerere WFC earned a cash prize of UGX 8M while runners up Asubo Gafford Ladies took home UGX 5M.

Second placed teams in each group, that’s Isra Soccer Academy and Wakiso Hill WFC got UGX 2.5M.

Each individual award came with a cash prize of UGX 0.5M.
