Nigeria Premier League NPFL Matchday 34 Review:Plateau United Share Spoils As MFM Stuns Enyimba

Plateau United failed to close up the gap against Rivers United following the conclusion of Matchday 34 games of the Nigeria Professional Football League(NPFL) on Sunday.

With four games to conclude the 2021-2022 NPFL season the title pendulum is gradually swinging to Rivers United who are on the verge of winning league for the first time.

Matchday 34 produced three draws with a total of 23 goals scored in all the ten games played on Saturday and Sunday.

Rivers United title celebration was further delayed as they played out a goalless draw against Enugu Rangers away.

However, their closest rivals, Plateau United suffered the same fate as Nenrot Silas missed a late penalty that could have given Plateau United a victory against visiting Gombe United.

Andrew Ikefe put Plateau United ahead in the 60th minute.

Ibrahim Yahaya restored parity for the visitors 10 minutes later.

Silas then fired wide from the spot on the stroke of 90 minutes.

Rivers United now need three points that wood guarantee them the whole grail of the NPFL.

Meanwhile, at Ikenne Remo Stars leapfrogged Rangers to cto third position courtesy of a 3-1 win against Lobi Stars in Ikenne.

For the hosts, Sikiru Alimi, Tolulope Ojo, and Samuel Anakwe made their shots.

The game’s lone goal for Lobi Stars was scored by Francis Odinaka.

Enyimba lost shockingly to basement club MFM 2-1 at the Dipo Stadium in Ijebu Ode.

Mbaoma now has the same number of goals (16) as Chijoke Akuneto of Rivers United this season.

However, MFM fought back thanks to goals from Nduka David and Oladayo Alabi (both from penalties).

Niger Tornadoes continued to struggle out of the relegation zone as they defeated Nasarawa United by a lone goal.

Abia Warriors further deepened Kano Pillars relegation wound with 3-2 victory as the Sai Ma Su Gida side slipped to 19th position on the log.

Dakkada FC avenged their Akwa Ibom FA Cup loss on city rivals, Akwa United in the Akwa Ibom derby.

Dakkada defeated the reigning champions 3-1 at the Goodswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo as they temporarily moved to safety in the battle against relegation.

Akwa United had defeated Dakkada FC 2-1 t9 win the Akwa Ibom FA Cup for the third consecutive time.
