Africa Soccer Al Ahly interim coach apologises for failing to beat Zamalek

Al Ahly interim coach Sami Komsan has apologized to the Egyptian team’s supporters for failing to win the Cairo derby against Zamalek on Sunday.

He said this after the two-all draw against the Cairo rivals in the Egyptian Premier League.

We are playing a lot of games in a short amount of time. We had Aliou Dieng and Ayman Ashraf out of today’s game due to being injured. However, I would like to apologize to our fans on not winning the Cairo Derby,’’ he said in a post-match press conference

Komsan attributed the result to fixtures jam culminating in injuries.

We started off the game very well and we were able to take the lead. Afterward, our players starting suffering from fatigue which caused our momentum to drop.”

“Despite being behind in the score during the second half, yet our players fought until the end and were able to equalize the score,” he added.

Al Ahly put their noses in front when Mohamed Sherif opened the scoring in the 11th minute.

Zamalek finally responded in the 68th minute from Achraf Bencharki’s powerful header.

The visitors doubled the advantage through veteran striker Shikabala who connected a low cross into the net.

Al Ahly pulled themselves from the jaws of defeat as Salah Mohsen scored via the far post.

The Red Eagles are on third place with 41 points from 18 games, only four points behind the leaders, Zamalek who played 21 matches.
