Ivory Coast WAFU B U-17: Golden Eaglets Defeats Baby Elephants 3-1 To Reach Final

Nigeria Golden Eaglets came from behind and defeated Baby Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire 3-1 to reach the final of the WAFU B U-17 tournament on Tuesday evening.

The Golden Eaglets continued their perfect record in the tournament at the Cape Coast Stadium, Ghana.

It was a pay back to the defending champions who beat Nigeria at the last finals of the tournament.

A brace from Emmanuel Micheal through set pieces and Abubakar Abdullahi’s goals secured the 2023 U17 AFCON ticket.

The Eaglets conceded in the first minute from the penalty spot through Yan Diamande in the 8th minute.

Despite trailing, the Lucky Ugbade tutored side never bogged as they kept their opponents in their own half searching for the equalizer.

Freekick specialist and left-back, Emmanuel Michael leveled for the Golden Eaglets as his curled set piece beat the Baby Elephants goalkeeper.

Michael gave Nigeria the lead through another free kick, his third free-kick goal of the tournament as the Golden Eaglets took the lead heading into the break.

The Golden Eaglets doubled their lead through Abubakar Abdullahi with Yahaya Lawali who provided the assist.

Micheal was voted Man of the Match, his third consecutive MOTM award.

The Golden Eaglets will await the winner of the second semi final game between Ghana and Burkina Faso.
