Africa Soccer Angola, Botswana launch Cosafa Cup campaigns with wins

Angola and Botswana started their Hollywoodbets Cosafa Cup campaigns with wins on Tuesday evening in South Africa.

The Angolans were 3-1 winners over Comoros Islands whereas Botswana saw off Seychelles 1-0.

The Group A matches took place at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban.

Angola went ahead through Megue’s 39th minute free kick.

Then the Palancas Negras cushioned their lead with Lepua converting from the penalty spot.

Thereafter, Higino came off the bench to put the game beyond the reach of the islanders.

Comoros snatched the consolation when they scored through Ali Nassim who beat the offside trap.

In another match, Botswana’s Zebras started the tournament with a 1-0 win over Seychelles.

The Zebras needed Thato Kebue’s 49th minute header to settle the contest.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, it is now the turn of Group B teams with Mauritius meeting Eswatini (kick-off 2:00 p.m. CAT).

The other game for the group will see Lesotho taking on Malawi (5:00 p.m. CAT). 

The overall winner of each group will proceed to the quarterfinals, joining seeded opposition such as Mozambique, South Africa, Namibia, Zambia and guests Senegal.
