Nigeria NPFL: Enyimba Stunned At Home As Rivers United Lost Away

The Matchday 37 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) produced some stunning results as newly crowned champions Rivers United suffered a 3-2 loss to 3SC.

A total of 27 goals were scored in the ten games played across the different venues in the country. However, Rivers United lost away and Enyimba United’s loss at home was the main talking point.

Rivers United, having won the NPFL title for the first time since the merging of the Dolphins and Sharks of Port Harcourt into one club, lost 3-2 in their last away game of the season.

Rivers United was hoping to continue their impressive away form this season but met with resistance from 3SC in Ibadan.

An interesting game saw the home team score two goals within the space of 5five minutes through Emmanuel Lucky and Opeoluwa Olufemi in the 20th and 25th minutes, but Chijioke Akuneto pulled one back for the visitors.

With three minutes left for the first half break, 3SC restored their two goals lead through Moses Omoduemuke.

Akuneto scored from the spot just two minutes after the resumption of hostility as the game ended 3-2.

Rivers United will now focus on their last game of the season at home where they will be officially handed the 2021-2022 NPFL trophy.

At the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba, visiting Dakkada FC continued their battle away from relegation as they defeated Enyimba 2-0 with both goals coming in the second half from Arise Ogundare in the 56th minute and Edidiong Ezekiel 90th minute.

Relegated MFM FC woes were compounded as they lost 3-0 to Kwara United in Illorin.

In Akure, Remo Stars maintained their hold on the third position after beating their hosts Sunshine Stars 1-0.

Former Sunshine Stars midfielder Dayo Ojo scored the decisive goal in the 59th minute.

Dethroned champions, Akwa United were held to a 2-2 draw by Abia Warriors at the Nest of Champions in Uyo.

In Lafia, Nasarawa United defeated Kano Pillars who are battling for relegation.
