Despite a successful run in Africa, ES Setif struggled domestically as they finished seventh in the league table, failing to qualify for continental competitions. As a result, Serbian manager Darko Novic left his role as ES Setif head coach with rumours emerging about the potential appointment of former Al Ahly and Egypt national team manager Hossam El-Badry.
El-Badry’s most recent tenure was with the Egyptian national team. He led the Pharaohs in nine games, of which he won five and tied in four.
