Africa Soccer CAF Awards 2022 : Ex-Egypt coach Carlos Queiroz says he won’t travel to Morocco

Carlos Queiroz will not show up in Morocco tonight for the CAF Awards 2022 despite being among the three finalists for the “CAF Coach of The Year” Award.

The Portuguese manager is one of the last three coaches who will battle for the award alongside Senegal’s Aliou Cisse and Morocco’s Walid Regragui.

However, the 27-year old announced on social media hat he can not make the trip to Morocco due to Covid-19 related issues.

“Thank you so much, to my players, staff and the entire Egyptian football Nation. Thank you president Ahmed for the opportunity. Now it was a great honor to be nominated for the 2022 CAF Coach of The Year Award”, Carlos Queiroz wrote on Twitter.

“This was possible thanks to your support and commitment. Unfortunately, due to an outbreak of covid in our family, I will not be able to attend the CAF Awards 2022 Ceremony today in Rabat. Thank you, CAF, for the invitation.

“And congratulations to all those nominated and involved in this prestigious ceremony that celebrates the great African football. See you soon! CQ”, he added.

Queiroz helped Pharaohs reach AFCON 2021 final and 2022 World Cup play-offs but lose the three games against Aliou Cisse who is seen a the favourite to claim the award tonight.
