It is with great pride and joy that we announce that the FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup will be taking place in February 2023.

The tournament which was scheduled to take place, in Belgium, February 2022, was postponed due to Covid-19 related reasons.

However, the seven day event is set to take place from the 5th to the 11th of February 2023 in Pretoria, South Africa.

The tournament will present an opportunity to showcase polished Namibian talent, as done at the Africa Indoor Cup, last year, in Durban.

Both the Namibian men and female indoor hockey teams will go the global event.

The Ladies’ Team automatically qualified for the Indoor World Cup after beating South Africa at the event, while the Men’s Team received a call up after the withdrawal of New Zealand.

We continue to welcome the choice of World Cup host as this gives Africa the chance to exhibit international hockey as per the FIH standards.

In the same vein, we also welcome the FIH Executive Board decision to appoint the Africa Hockey Federation (AHF) President, Mr. Seihf Ahmed (Egypt) as the Acting President of the International Hockey Federation (FIH).

We therefore urge all Namibians, from the general public to the corporate sector, to rally their support behind our two teams as they embark on this patriotic journey.

Our presence at the Indoor World Cup gives us an opportunity to promote Namibia Sports internationally.
