Kenya Gor Mahia Appoint New Head Coach After Parting Ways With Spiers

Nineteen-time Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Gor Mahia FC have unveiled a new head coach, Jonathan McKinstry of Northern Ireland.

The former Uganda Cranes tactician takes over from Andreas Spiers of Germany whose contract with the club expired early this month after six months in charge.

Among other countries that the 37-year-old McKinstry has coached include Sierra Leone and  Rwanda.

The Irish tactician has also had stints with Lithuanian side Kauno Zalgiris and Saif SC of Bangladesh.

His unveiling in Nairobi on Friday comes after  Gor secured a KSh229 million three-year sponsorship deal with betting giant Betafriq.

McKinstry will be expected to take the team to new levels after the club ended the KPL season in third place on 58 points behind champions Tusker FC and second-placed Kakamega Homeboyz FC who finished on 66 points apiece.

Club legends George Sunguti, Tobias ‘Jua Kali’ Ochola, Maurice Ole Tunda and Mike ‘Kwasa Kwasa’ Otieno have all come out to urge the current players to put the team at heart ahead of the new KPL season kick-off.

Betafriq General Manager Craig Oyugi has indicated that they are proud to be associated with Gor which is a big brand nationally.

He has promised to help the African giants nurture upcoming talents in their stable.
