CAF Champions League CAF Officially Launched African Super League

African Super League which will bring together the biggest clubs on the continent for an annual competition was under develeopment months ago.

And after a meeting held with 40 clubs during the latest Africa Cup of Nations, CAF president Patrice Motsepe announced that the first edition of the African Super League will take place in 2023.

The idea behind the tournament is to increase competition within the continent and create more income for the participating clubs. Additionally, if a team wishes to play in the newly-formed tournament, they will need an academy and a women’s team.

In a statement made by CAF on Wednesday, Motesepe announced the approval of the competition, while also confirming the prize pool and start date.

The format of the tournament yet or how the teams for the Super League will be selected is yet to be revealed by the CAF.

The CAF Executive Committee (“EXCO”) took a decision to launch the CAF Africa Super League in August 2022. This League will officially kick-off in August 2023.” The statement said.

We announced on 3 July 2022 that the total prize money of the CAF Africa Super League will be USD 100 million, with the winner receiving USD 11.5 million.” The statement continued.
