Ghana Asamoah Gyan Likely To Make Black Stars Return For Qatar 2022

Asamoah Gyan, who hasn’t played for the his country since 2019, has new ambitions for his country. Ghana’s all-time top scorer set his sights on playing for the Black Stars at the 2022 FIFA World Cup to be staged in Qatar.

The last time Gyan represented his country was during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations game against Tunisia. And despite the long absence from the national team, the player is yet to retire from international football.

Anything can happen. It has happened before back in 1994 when Roger Milla came back from retirement to play in the World Cup.” Gyan said in an interview with BBC’s John Bennett admitting that he is not fully fit at the moment but working hard to be in a good shape.

But I haven’t retired yet. I haven’t announced my retirement. I have been out for almost two years now due to injuries and my body shutting down.

“I just need to get my body back in shape. So I have started training of course and I’ll see how my body reacts to playing competitive football.

“Talent wise, everything is there already. So I just have to prepare physically and then we’ll see what happens.”

The 36-year-old’s last competitive season came during the 202/21 Ghana Premier League season where he featured five times for Legon Cities.
