Egypt Al Ahly Set To Replace Ricardo Soares With Ex-Morocco Head Coach

Egyptian Premier League giants Al Ahly have reportedly made an official proposal to former Morocco head coach Vahid Halilhodžić as Ricardo Soares has been struggling to impress with the Red Devils.

Soares had big boots to fill following coach Pitso Mosimane’s exit from the club in May, given the South African’s trophy laden spell in Egypt.

Now with high standards to maintain, an inconsistent showing in the Egyptian Premier League this season is said to have prompted the club’s hierarchy to assess their options regarding a replacement for Soares.

Halilhodžić was recently sacked as Morocco’s national team head coach just three months away from the 2022 World Cup kick-off.

In his three years in charge, he led the Atlas Lions to 30 games, of which he won 20, tied in seven, and only lost three.

However, he had a disappointing run in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, crashing out of the tournament after losing 2-1 in the quarter-finals to Egypt.

Just two days after his dismissal, the 69-year-old’s next destination seems to be already planned as he could be set for a move to Egypt.

According to a report by le360sport, Cairo giants Al Ahly are interested in bringing in the Bosnian to take charge of the club for next season.

Halilhodžić is said to have received an offer from Al Ahly with the club unhappy with the team’s performances under Ricardo Soares.

Al Ahly had parted ways with South African manager Pitso Mosimane just days after losing the 2022 CAF Champions League final back in May.

Portugal’s Ricardo Soares was then named Al Ahly’s new head coach but their position in the league table has not changed as they are set to lose out on the title for a second consecutive season.
