Vukile Nkomo was attending the Fingo Bottle Store with his brother in the small village of Mbembesi on Saturday night to watch the Red Devils. The 31-year-old was attempting to defend his brother, who had an argument with another fan over the match.

According to Sunday News, after the game had finished, the brother and a man named Sthembelani Tshuma got into an altercation. The man left the bottle store absolutely furious to pick up his machete from his home.

The killer reportedly returned later that evening and struck Vukile with the blade. The victim’s brother managed to escape to a nearby shopping centre to alert the police to try and save his sibling.

But it was too late after returning to the scene where they found Vukile lying dead in a pool of blood. Sthembelani is facing charges of murder and is currently at large, having evaded the police.

Football is immensely popular in Zimbabwe and is among its most played sports in the African nation, where the Premier League is broadcast across the country.
