FIFA U20 WORLD CUP Buhari To Host Flamingos After Winning FIFA U17 WWC Bronze

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari will host the Flamingos, who won bronze, at the Aso Villa.

The Ministry of Sports made this information public in a press release shortly after the hostoric squad arrived at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.

According to the press release, “Given their intrinsic talent, talents, and shown ability, the World Cup bronze medalist Flamingos will receive the maximum amount of assistance and encouragement from the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development as they go from one level to another.

This commitment was made during the remarks made by the Hon. Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. The Nigerian Flamingos, who won the bronze medal at the recently concluded 7th FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup finals, were guests of Sunday Dare on Tuesday at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.

“We commend you for the way you performed without fear and held up the flag to win a historic bronze for our country in this competition.

“I praise the NFF for the support to the team right from their screening through the qualifiers and to the arrangements for final camping in Turkey and the final tournament in India.

“We must also commend the coaching crew for their steadfastness in imparting the right knowledge to the players.

“I will be happy to see these players graduate from this level to the U20 and then to the senior team, because they have the skills and talent, and demonstrated ability to do very well.

“The Ministry will give NFF the right support to achieve that. They have served well as good ambassadors of our country on and off the pitch.”

The team had previously been introduced to the Minister by NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, who recalled the team’s accomplishments during the qualifying campaign and at the final tournament in India and praised the players for being “young, active, dynamic, optimistic, and promising.”

The team “performed so incredibly well” to make Nigeria proud, according to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Alhaji Ismaila Abubakar, who also noted that the coaching staff should be given credit for these qualities.

Alvine Dah-Zossu, the team captain, thanked Nigerians from all walks of life for their prayers and well wishes and expressed gratitude to the Ministry and the NFF.

First Vice President of the NFF Chief Felix Anyansi-Agwu, General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, NFF Board Member Mr. Timothy Henman, Director of FEADS Dr. Simon Ebhojiaye, Director of Facilities Engineer Olatunji Okedairo, Director of Human Resources Alhaji Musa Jafaar, Director of Procurement Mr. Segun Oke, Chairmen of the Football Associations of Gombe and Kwara States, and Ms (SA to the Hon. Minister).

The NFF’s first vice president, Chief Felix Anyansi-Agwu, the general secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, the director of communications, Ademola Olajire, the director of protocol, Dayo Enebi Achor, the head of international, the special assistant to the honorable minister, Toyin Ibitoye, and Emmanuel Ayanbunmi welcomed the players and their representatives earlier (Chief Protocol Officer).

Chief Anyansi-Agwu praised the team for their exemplary behavior on and off the field of play in India and offered them the assurance that the Nigerian government, the Nigerian people, and the NFF are all happy of their achievements.

The Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa promised the team a dummy check for N3 million, which was given to the players and staff at the airport.

The team was guaranteed $10,000 by Alhaji Aminu Balele Kurfi, chairman of the NFF Task Force on Youth Competitions.

The team will visit the Presidency at a later time.
