Senegal national team head coach Aliou Cisse is reportedly considering resigning from his position as the coach of the Teranga Lions after the country’s 2022 World Cup campaign.

Cisse was appointed Senegal coach in 2016 and led the West-African country to AFCON 2017 quarter-final where they lose to tournament winners Cameroon on penalties (0-0, 4-5).

Two years later, Cisse and his men managed to reach the final but unfortunately bowed to Riyad Mahrez’s Algeria in final (0-1).

2021 was their year as they won their first-ever AFCON in Cameroon, beating Mohamed Salah’s Egypt in final (0-0, 4-2).

Furthermore, Aliou Cisse succeeded in qualifying his country to the World Cup in Qatar by knocking out Egypt at Diamniadio.

Their campaign in Qatar started with a 0-2 loss against Netherlands, but they won both of their last two Group stages game respectively against Qatar (3-1) and Ecuador (2-1).

However, they lost to England in the last 16 round 0-3 and were sent home. Now, reports claim he is considering leaving his job.

According to Senegal diary Record, Aliou Cisse is reflecting on his tenure as the national coach.

The local media indicates that the 46-year is doubtful on whether to continue or stepping down after 6 years at the helm of the national.

He is yet to make the decision and is fully backed by the Government.
