Spain No Winter Transfer Window For Barcelona- Laporta

The financial fair play regulations of LaLiga may prevent Barcelona from adding players during the January transfer window, according to club president Joan Laporta.

Laporta said that Barca’s finances are “strong” once more, with an anticipated €1.23 billion in revenue and a planned profit of $274 million for the current campaign.

We had to make some levers, which were economic operations that saved the club from ruin, and now the club is in economic recovery,” Laporta told Spanish news agency EFE.

“But despite that, according to the rules of financial fair play of the Spanish league, we can not sign.

Us and some other LaLiga clubs are also trying to convince LaLiga to be more flexible, and allow us other types of interpretations that can make Barcelona even stronger,” he said.

Barcelona reported a €98 million profit for the fiscal year 2021–2022 in September.

The club sold a 49% ownership in Barca Studios and 25% of its domestic broadcast rights for more than €700 million in order to cover losses and adhere to LaLiga’s financial fair play regulations.

This made it possible for Barcelona to spend almost €150 million on Robert Lewandowski, Rapha, and Jules Kounde over the offseason.

Barcelona, according to Laporta, needed to increase revenue and cut expenses.

However, he stressed that “since there are inequalities in this aspect,” financial fair play “should be harmonised” in all European leagues.

“It is more flexible in the Premier League than in Spain and it doesn’t make much sense to me,” Laporta said.
