Tuesday’s 3-0 victory over Bournemouth helped Manchester United maintain their hold on a top-four spot in the Premier League after their fourth straight victory.

Erik ten Hag’s team earned its ninth victory in 10 games across all competitions thanks to goals from England internationals Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw in the second half and World Cup standout Casemiro of Brazil in the first.

United has now amassed 35 points from 17 games, matching Newcastle for third place and five points ahead of Tottenham, who is currently in fifth place. United lost their first two Premier League games of the season.

For the visit of struggling Bournemouth to Old Trafford, who are only two points above the relegation zone, Rashford was reinstated into United’s starting lineup.

The England forward, who was benched against Wolves after oversleeping and skipping a meeting, made a comeback as one of four changes alongside Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, and Donny van de Beek. He then came off the bench to score the game-winning goal.

In the 23rd minute, Casemiro gave the home team the lead.

Adam Smith fouled Rashford on the left, prompting Christian Eriksen to float in a free kick that Casemiro met at the near post to score.

Early on in the second half, United doubled its lead.

The play was started and finished by England defender Luke Shaw, who raced out of his own half, moved the ball to the right, and then came in to turn in a low cross from replacement Alejandro Garnacho.

Cristiano Ronaldo, a world-renowned forward, left United on Tuesday after being introduced to his new Saudi club, Al Nassr.

United is still adjusting to his departure.

With Ronaldo playing a supporting role even before his departure in November, Rashford has taken over as the primary striker this season.

The 25-year-old added gloss to the scoreline by scoring United’s third goal in the 86th minute.
